What We Collect

 PET bottle recovery rates generally fall between 20–35%, and in some states dip to as low as 10%. Thermoform PET— including berry, salad, and clear takeout containers—is often removed during sorting and diverted to landfill. The ICAN process unlocks value from this material, transforming packaging that would otherwise be discarded. 

Polyethylene containers, including milk jugs and select dairy lids labeled HDPE and LDPE, are gaining market value when collected clean and free from contamination. The ICAN collection system delivers a high-quality, clean stream of material suitable for reuse in food packaging. 

 Today, less than 1% of this material is recovered and returned to food packaging. Annually, over 1,000,000 tons—valued at roughly $18 billion—of polypropylene (PP) are landfilled.
